Rio 2016 officially introduces the three Olympic medals
2488 of them have been produced: 812 Golds, 812 Silvers and 864 Bronzes, following strict criteria of sustainability and honoring the bond between the Olympic history and the nature.The Organizing Committee of Rio 2016 officially presented the three medals that the athletes will compete with each other to win.
Thomas Bach, President of the International Olympic Committee, who was present at the launch event held in the Barra Olympic Park, said: “Today marks the start of the final countdown to the first Olympic Games to be staged in South America.”
The design of the Gold, Silver and Bronze medals, celebrates the relationship between the strengths of Olympic heroes and the force of nature, also keeping sustainability at their heart. The Gold of the 500 grams medals, indeed, has been extracted without the use of mercury, and it has been produced according to strict criteria, from the initial mining to the final design of the product.
